Finding My Way...

Hi there! I’m Ben Bender, the creator of Beorn: The Littlest Viking Saga, and as of last year (2021) I am a full-time stay at home daddy and cartoonist.

I look forward to sharing with you a bit of my experiences as a new creator. I started drawing seriously in my 30’s and didn’t self-publish the first chapter of Beorn until I was 40, so my experiences are a little different than other creators, so I hope I can share some stuff that maybe others can’t. I still feel very much like I’m at the beginning of this cartooning journey, so I feel like I might bring some unique things to my posts that hopefully you’ll enjoy. And don’t worry! You’ll get plenty of the things we all love to see from creators: process posts, behind the scenes sneak peaks, covers, fanart ink drawings and watercolor paintings, sketches, and finished pages. And soon, I’ll be publishing my next upcoming comic series right here on Substack!

But, even more than a good newsletter site for me to show my work, or a publishing platform to share my new project, I’m excited about Substack because it seems to be an excellent platform in which to build a community. Ever since launching the first Beorn campaign on Kickstarter, I’ve loved the growing support around my work. It’s truly been a huge deal for me to have that kind of connection with folks from all over the world who are excited about and engaged in this crazy Dream of mine. I don’t know if I’ll ever really be able to put into words what it has meant to me, or say thank you enough.
